Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

Although Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free hasn’t had any major updates in recent years, it is still an effective anti-malware tool.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free’s primary feature is to scan your computer for “the bad guys”, otherwise known as malware. On that level, it is quite successful. It offers a quick scan, a full scan, and a flash scan to analyze memory and autorun objects.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free also supports multiple drive scanning, including network drives, context menu options including a scan-on-demand function for individual files, and the FileAssassin option to remove locked files.

The only downside to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free is the fact that it’s a one-hit wonder. It scans & removes malware—but that’s all it does.

The paid upgrade version does include a few more features, but still doesn’t extend very far past the malware removal tool. Two features of note on the paid upgrade are Protection controls to block zero-day infections from malicious sites and files, and a scheduler.
